About HookLab
HookLab is a small tool that helps video creators write the opening line of a short video. It supports TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn and email subject lines.
Why it exists
On short-form platforms the first few seconds decide whether anyone keeps watching, and the opening line is often the hardest part to write. Staring at a blank screen is slow, and re-using the same few openers makes a channel feel repetitive. HookLab gives you a batch of drafts to react to, which is usually faster than starting from nothing.
How it works
You enter a topic in a sentence or two (up to 500 characters), pick a platform and a tone, and optionally pick a template. The request goes to an AI model, which returns a batch of hook drafts in the format you chose. You can copy any of them, regenerate, or edit them yourself.
There are 60 templates in total: 10 free basic ones and 10 each for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and email subject lines. Every template nudges the writing toward a different pattern, such as a question, a bold claim, a numbered list or a story tease.
What it can and cannot do
- It gives you drafts and ideas. It does not know your audience, so you still need to judge which line fits your video.
- It cannot guarantee views, engagement or income. Hooks are only one part of a video's performance.
- Generated text can occasionally be generic, repeat itself or state something untrue. Review and fact-check anything before you publish it.
- The guides on this site explain the thinking behind good hooks, so you can improve the output rather than copy it.
Read the guides: HookLab Guides.

Who runs it
HookLab is built and maintained by Macrae Myint (Aleph Development), an independent developer. It is a small product with one person behind it, so replies can take a day or two.
